A Pavilion of Tales and a Bonfire of Ghost Stories!

Ninth Annual all day storytelling and music festival in the historic Mohegan Colony in Westchester, New York where once upon a time Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson performed.

Nationally and regionally known tellers and musicians appear on the Pavilion stage telling adult tales, simultaneously family programs go on in the stone school house opposite.

Gather round flaming torches and flickering candlelight for Ghost Stories in the evening at the Pavilion.

Rain or shine! All venues are covered. Food and refreshments available.

Bring towels if you wish to have a dip in the lake.

Crompond, NY 10517, near Peekskill and Yorktown Heights (in Westchester), one hour north of NYC - Hudson Line to Peekskill (Off Lexington Avenue between routes 6 and 202 in the Colony) Be entertained and entranced by renowned storytellers and musicians at the charming Colony at Lake Mohegan rain or shine! Sit spellbound as they bring to life historical moments, characters, and events from literature, as well as their own personal tales under the Pavilion or in the Stone School House. Then bring your blankets to keep you warm from the "chilling" ghost stories we will tell by the light of flaming torches and candlelight in the evening at the Pavilion!

Featured artists include:

• Carrie Sue Ayvar is a nationally acclaimed storyteller with an impressive repertoire of bilingual, cultural, folk, and historical tales.
• Danaher & MacCloud are Irish musicians/singers and tellers.
• Nostalgia - Our local hot jazz swing band with smoky vocals by Ellen Monten
• Bob Reiser is sharing a special story.
• Corinne Stavish is a master storteller from Michigan.
• The Storycrafters are storytellers and musicians who blend music and stories in wacky ways
• Too Human "Good music with a lot of heart" from jazz and blues to pop to R&B.
• These three tellers are joining us for Ghost Stories:
          Marni Gillard
          Linda Humes
          Joy Kelly
• and more!

Sheila Harris, from Utica, NY, will also have a table display of Chinese artifacts and photos as she did last year - and will discuss our 2008 trip to China. We went on the NSN Storytelling Delegation. She will tell a Chinese story for our Family Stage.

Storytelling Workshop by Corinne Stavish

Hussies, Harlots, Heroines: Shady Ladies of the Bible

Saturday, August 8, 10am to Noon

To which shopping mall did Eve rush for her fig leaves? How would it feel to be 90 years old and get pregnant with your first child? How do two sisters survive married to the same man? Was Dinah raped or seduced?

You can explore the answers to these questions and discover complicated, powerful, challenging Biblical stories. It is time to bring these ancient women out of the shadows into the full light of modernity. We will explore how to develop Biblical stories and re-image them. This method works for taking any traditional tale (folk tale, fairy tale, myth) and shaping a new story. The workshop is highly interactive.

All are welcome - storytellers, clergy, counselors, anyone interested in exploring the bridge between traditional and personal stories. Corinne has given this workshop at regional and national conferences.
